Job Summary
Join our dynamic dental team as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), where your expertise will directly enhance patient care and streamline clinical operations. Duties
- Perform expanded functions such as coronal polishing, placement of temporary crowns, and other delegated clinical procedures in accordance with state regulations and practice protocols.
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry with precision and efficiency.
- Operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging devices while maintaining strict adherence to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Take vital signs, medical history updates, and document medical and dental information accurately in electronic health record (EHR) system- Open Dental
- Manage dental records, medical documentation, coding, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
- Provide chairside assistance using four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize workflow and patient comfort.
- Support the dental receptionist by managing appointment scheduling, patient check-in/out processes, and answering patient inquiries professionally.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by following infection control standards and ensuring all tools are sterilized appropriately.
- Educate patients on oral health practices tailored to pediatric or general dentistry needs while fostering a positive experience.
Qualifications
- Certified Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) credential or equivalent certification recognized by state licensing boards.
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a general or pediatric dentistry setting; familiarity with dental terminology is essential.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Open Dental, Dentrix, or Epic; experience with medical coding and documentation is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, infection control procedures, and aseptic techniques required for safe clinical practice.
- Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely while adhering to radiation safety standards; experience with 3D scanners is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members including dental receptionists and other healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during various dental procedures including endodontics and prosthodontics.
