Full job description

As a senior hardware debugging expert on our team, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, validating, and resolving complex hardware issues spanning compute, controls, networking, and sensor systems. You will lead triage of high-severity issues within our deployed fleet, drive end-to-end root-cause investigations across subsystem boundaries, and build novel analysis methods to reproduce field issues in the lab. You will partner closely with fleet support engineers and hardware design teams, mentor less experienced engineers, and help drive solutions that come out of your investigations, from problem statement through implementation and fleet-wide validation.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead triage of high-severity hardware issues within the deployed fleet, spanning compute, controls, networking, and sensor systems.
  • Drive end-to-end root-cause investigations across subsystem boundaries, from initial field report through confirmed root cause.
  • Develop novel analysis methods and lab reproduction setups to recreate field issues and validate fixes.
  • Propose, scope, and drive long-term hardware design changes, partnering with fleet support engineers and hardware design teams from problem statement through implementation and fleet-wide validation.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and communicate findings and recommendations to engineering and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience as a hardware engineer, test engineer, or systems validation engineer with deep, hands-on expertise across multiple subsystems.
  • Demonstrated expertise across at least three of the following domains: compute/processing hardware (thermal, power, storage/NVMe), vehicle controls and power systems (CAN bus, battery/voltage management, e-stop and safety circuits), networking (automotive Ethernet, switch and link diagnostics), or sensor hardware (camera, lidar, radar, or thermal imaging systems).
  • Extensive experience utilizing advanced diagnostic tools (oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, network traffic generators, power analyzers) to evaluate hardware performance and formulate actionable solutions for design teams.
  • Proven track record independently leading systematic triage of complex, ambiguous field issues, developing novel lab reproduction methods, and driving investigations to root cause across multiple interacting subsystems.
  • Ability to propose, scope, and drive long-term hardware design changes from root-cause finding through implementation, working directly with hardware design teams.
  • Experience mentoring or technically leading other engineers, and communicating findings and recommendations to both engineering and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Precision Time Protocol (PTP), including network synchronization troubleshooting, hardware timestamping, and timing analysis.
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (Python or SQL) to build tooling for fleet log analysis, lab equipment control, and automated test/reproduction pipelines.
  • Experience owning a subsystem domain end-to-end: from field-issue detection through containment, root cause, design fix, and fleet-wide validation.
  • History of driving cross-functional design reviews and influencing hardware design decisions at the component or system level.
