Full job description

Passaic County Community College is seeking a full-time General Accountant and Financial Analyst who will report to the Controller.

This is a full-time, administrative position.

Example of Duties:

  • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and timely in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries, including recurring, adjusting, accrual, prepaid, and deferral entries.
  • Process and review financial transactions in Colleague, ensuring proper account coding and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and fixed assets.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies with internal departments and external parties.
  • Ensure accurate and complete records of all financial transactions and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls and policies to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations.
  • Maintain fixed asset and capital asset records, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules in coordination with the Accountant.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies, assisting the Controller with audits and providing necessary documentation and schedules.
  • Assist with grant accounting and reconciliation, supporting compliance with federal and state funding requirements.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing, including accruals and account analysis.
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger and support budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Assist Controller in identifying opportunities to automate processes and create efficiencies in documentation of process improvements and related SOP creation.
  • Performs all other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required. CPA-track preferred.
  • Higher education experience (Community College preferred), with knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles: fund accounting, familiarity with governmental (GASB) and (FASB) accounting preferred.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using ERP systems (Colleague preferred); ability to learn new systems quickly and support transitions between platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with internal departments and external parties.

The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.

Compensation: Salary is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The salary range for this position is $58,000-$63,000.
