Full job description

Lead and shape the Department of Hospital Medicine! As Medical Director, you'll set the standard for exceptional, evidence-based, patient-centered care. You'll foster a collaborative environment with the patient care team and hospital staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily Operations: Oversee daily workflow, ensuring optimal hospitalist coverage (Amion), managing patient flow and distribution, addressing clinical concerns, and supporting the Administrative Coordinator with callouts.

  • On-Call Leadership: Serve as Administrator-On-Call for the Department.

  • Team Development: Participate in recruitment, interview candidates, provide feedback, support APPs, and contribute to FPPE for new providers.

  • Quality Focus: Respond to STARS reports, address clinical performance and professionalism issues, lead onboarding, and support stroke improvement initiatives.

  • Committee Participation: Actively participate in various meetings and committees, including Hospital Medicine, ED/HM, Recruitment, Peer Review, Stroke, ED-HM-CC, Hospital Medicine Advisory, Beverly Operations, and hospital-wide initiatives.

  • Communication: Facilitate communication regarding discharges, transfers, and telemetry downgrades. Address real-time concerns from nursing and ancillary staff.

Tasks Breakdown:

1. Daily Workflow & Operations:

  • Monitor shift coverage (Amion).

  • Assess census for staffing needs.

  • Resolve patient distribution issues.

  • Support admin with callouts.

  • Assign responsibilities.

  • Address admission-related issues.

  • Handle real-time concerns (nursing, etc.).

  • Assist with "Code Help" communication.

  • Interview candidates & provide feedback.

  • Support APPs.

  • Participate in FPPE.

  • Take Administrator-On-Call duties.

2. Quality:

  • Respond to STARS reports.

  • Address performance & professionalism.

  • Lead onboarding for new providers.

  • Support Stroke improvement.

3. Meetings/Committees

  • Hospital Medicine - Regular staff meetings

  • Med Exec Committee Monthly

  • Multi-disciplinary Peer Review (PIC)

  • Stroke Committee and Code Committee participation

  • Patient Experience Check-in (monthly)

  • EM-HM -ICU collaborative meetings

  • Hospital-wide Initiative Meetings as necessary

Details:

  • FTE: 0.5 Clinical, 0.5 Administrative

  • Reports To: Chief Medical Officer of Beth Israel Lahey Health Medical Group, and Chief Medical Officer of Anna Jaques Hospital

Pay Range:

* $289,000.00 USD - $322,000.00 USD

* The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation may be determined based on several factors, that may include education, training, relevant experience, specialty, geography of work location, productivity, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. This position may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include productivity and quality bonuses.

* In addition, this leadership role also includes a generous Medical Director stipend as part of the total compensation package.
