Full job description

This position supports the medical providers and nursing staff to ensure all patients receive quality care. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Escort patients to exam rooms; interview patients; measure vital signs including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature; and document all information in patient’s chart. Assists the RN, LPN, and medical providers by promptly reporting changes in the patient’s condition. Initiates emergency measures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation appropriate to skill level, and assists with retrieving emergency medical equipment as necessary. Assists medical providers in examination of patients by explaining procedures, positioning the patient, assembling, arranging, and draping instruments and gathering supplies. Documents information/ patient care into the patient’s electronic health care record. This documentation will occur, at times in the exam room with the patient and medical provider, in a real-time situation. Performs Nebulizer treatments. Performs oral, topical, intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intradermal administration of non-controlled medications. Performs immunizations (subcutaneous or intramuscular) Performs 12 lead electrocardiogram (EKG) and gives report to RN and/or medical provider. Performs throat cultures and laboratory sample collection, within the CMA’s scope of practice. Performs Ear irrigation. Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required. Assists with administrative tasks as necessary, such as answering patient telephone calls and scheduling appointments. Other duties as assigned to maintain and enhance the operation of the department. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED equivalent Current certification for a Medical Assistant from accredited program. Supporting certification such as BLS and other necessary competencies (e.g., ACLS, TNCC, PALS etc.) or obtain within 60 days of hire. Must be able to demonstrate skills in the practical application of electronic systems and database management software and satisfactory sterile techniques. Must be able to pass a criminal background check under the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (P.L.101-630). Current BLS Certification or be able to obtain it within 60 days of hire. WORKING CONDITIONS: Repetitive sitting, standing, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, and reaching.
