Job Summary
As a per diem Medical Receptionist, you will work a schedule as needed, possibly covering for vacations and for staff on a maternity leave. The schedule is flexible. This is a great opportunity for someone who is seeking more experience in healthcare or working in an outpatient environment.
The Medical Receptionist creates a customer friendly environment utilizing exemplary customer service skills; greets patients upon entry to medical office, obtains all pertinent demographic information from patients and family members; schedule and verify appointments. Supports the practice by answering a multi-line phone system. Assists in creating and maintaining electronic medical records. Responsible for registration, verification of insurances including Medicare and Medicaid, and collection of co-payments. Responsible for setting up patient charts and pre-registration prior to appointment and ensuring charts are complete with necessary paperwork. Scan and copy pertinent information into patients' charts. Performs various administrative functions in support of the medical office.
Essential Functions
- Answer heavy phone volume among the rest of the front desk team..
- Meet and greet patients, family members and all visitors.
- Schedule and confirm appointments within the EMR System.
- Schedule procedures and/or surgeries as necessary.
- Verify insurance eligibility coverage, benefits and co-payments.
- Confirm patient’s identification and demographics at each visit.
- Update patient demographic and insurance information in electronic health record as needed.
- Collect deductibles, co-payments and/or other outstanding balances.
- Enter charges from super-bill/encounter form into electronic practice management system.
- Reconcile front desk charges and payments.
- Relay messages to physicians, physician extender(s) and/or other staff.
- Relay messages to patients when requested by the physicians.
- Assist with filing and copying charts and documents, as needed.
- Assist with bringing charts to and from the front desk.
- Order and stock supplies.
- Prepare new patient charts.
- May be assigned to work at other offices as needed for coverage purposes

Qualifications
- A High School diploma is required. Some college preferred.
- 1-3 years work experience in a customer service environment; a hospital setting or medical office Preferred
- A professional appearance in representing the Company brand and excellent communication and organizational skills.
- General understanding of office procedures, billing, and insurance carriers (Medium proficiency)
