We are looking for a talented Manufacturing Engineer - Senior to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our CDBS (Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems) location at York, SC.

- Drive Data-Led Manufacturing Design: You use digital modeling and simulation tools to make informed decisions and continuously improve processes.
- Document Processes for Consistency: You create clear, standardized manufacturing procedures that ensure continuity and quality across stakeholders.
- Solve Problems Systematically: You apply structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes, implement durable solutions, and prevent recurrence.
Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Deep Machine Safety Expertise: You need strong knowledge of global, national, and local machine-safety regulations to interpret requirements and guide plants, projects, and leadership effectively.
- Risk Assessment & Technical Evaluation Skills: You must be able to perform machine safety risk assessments, inspections, verifications, validations, and system design reviews - including safeguarding and functional safety evaluations.
- Controls & Systems Knowledge: Success requires hands-on understanding of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation control systems, plus the ability to read or reverse-engineer detailed control schematics when documentation is missing.
- Ability to Develop Standards & Processes: You need the capability to create and maintain internal guidelines, specifications, maintenance programs, testing protocols, and documentation related to machine safeguarding and functional safety.
- Strong Collaboration Across Global Teams: You must work effectively with remote, cross-disciplinary teams and the Global Manufacturing Engineering group to ensure consistent application of machine-safety standards worldwide.
- Incident Investigation & Problem-Solving Skills: You need the ability to lead or support root-cause analyses for machine-safety incidents and drive corrective and preventive actions across multiple sites.
- Training & Communication Capability: You must be able to train employees, communicate new requirements, and translate complex safety concepts into clear guidance for diverse audiences.
- Project Leadership & Vendor Management: You need the ability to act as SME on capital projects, manage external consultants, support remediation work, and ensure all safety solutions meet Cummins and industry standards.

Qualifications
- Engineering Foundation: A bachelor's degree in engineering and a practical understanding of machinery operation to ground all safety decisions in sound engineering principles.
- Advanced Machine Safety Expertise: At least 3+ years of hands-on experience leading machine safeguarding programs, including risk assessments, safety-system evaluation, and implementation of Safety Functions (SRP-CS) per ISO 13849-1 using tools like SISTEMA.
- Functional Safety Certification: Certification as a Functional Safety Engineer (CSME or TÜV) to validate expertise in machinery functional safety requirements.
- Strong Controls & Automation Knowledge: Deep technical understanding of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation control systems, including the ability to read and interpret complex schematics.
- Standards & Regulatory Mastery: Working knowledge of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and detailed application of key standards such as ISO 13849-1/2, IEC 62061, ISO 12100, and relevant ANSI/ISO regulations.
- Safety Hardware & System Proficiency: Familiarity with a wide range of safeguarding technologies - interlocks, presence-sensing devices, safety relays, safety PLCs, safety-rated drives/servos, and pneumatic/hydraulic safety valves.
- Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to use electrical/mechanical test equipment, commission and troubleshoot safety functions, and program logic solvers, safety relays, and HMIs.
- Leadership in Cross-Functional Safety Work: Experience leading multidisciplinary risk assessments, guiding teams with limited safety knowledge, managing consultants, and driving company-wide machine-safety improvement plans.
