Full job description
Who we are
School scheduling is a hard problem, one that technology was meant to solve. Yet for decades, the master schedule has been built by hand, consuming educators’ valuable time while delivering a sub-optimal result for students. We started Timely to build the tool we wish we had when we were in schools. And today, we are changing how schools create high quality schedules for teachers and students. Timely combines groundbreaking AI technology with support from a team of expert school schedulers: saving schedulers’ time, and surfacing opportunities for leaders to unlock staff potential. Timely delivers optimized master schedules that are more efficient, accommodate diverse educator needs, and enable student access to courses and pathways that impact their lives.
Our district and school partners agree: scheduling is a key opportunity for educational innovation, and that Timely is the indispensable partner in addressing the challenge. We’re experiencing exciting growth as a company, while doubling down on our mission and people-centered approach to leveraging powerful technology. We serve districts and charter school organizations across 15+ states, growing (and renewing) at rates that lead the education technology industry. This growth has been driven by our strong product-market fit, deep understanding of education, and commitment to customer success.
About the Role
This role is for senior level engineers who are able to operate in ambiguous settings and straddle work in deeper engineering concerns alongside the product and business implications of their work. You will be our founding team member for a new product initiative and as a result expected to lead both the product and technical discovery and execution early on in an independent manner. You will work closely with key stakeholders within the company as well as learning from existing and potential customers to define an MVP and future iterations.
Key Responsibilities
Drive the early product discovery of a new area for Timely with some support from external PM, design, and business stakeholders. Coordinate and oversee work of these external stakeholders in the process.
Build initial prototypes and MVPs of the product end-end to prove value.
Establish & operationalize key decision processes and metrics to move forward with new product effort.
Drive key technical discovery and decisioning for any buildout. Rightsize our architecture and design early on to balance time to market and support for future iterations and integrations.
Engage with potential customers to engage with, provide feedback on, the product.
Required Qualifications
6-10+ years of full-stack product engineering experience and comfort with: Javascript, React, Typescript, Python, AWS
Prior experience taking a product from 0 → 1 (either within a company or as a new startup)
Demonstrated flexibility in skillset to own engineering work alongside driving product and business decisions.
Strong technical ability: independently able to ship prototypes and features full stack.
Prior experience in EdTech is a plus but not required.
Fully remote role with a preference for candidates based in NY or Boston.
Includes competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and meaningful equity. Final compensation will reflect experience and scope of the role.
