Full job description
Production Planning & Materials Supervisor
Aliquippa, PA
$70,000 to $80,000 per year
A manufacturer is hiring a Production Planning & Materials Supervisor to convert customer demand and inventory requirements into an executable production plan, while ensuring the availability and controlled flow of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods. This role serves as a critical link between Sales, Customer Service, Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, and Quality.
Schedule
Full time.
Compensation
$70,000 to $80,000 per year, based on experience.
What You'll Do
This role develops and maintains the production plan based on customer demand, forecasts, inventory targets, available capacity, labor, and material availability, coordinating scheduling and production sequence across extrusion, drying/baking, and packing operations to optimize efficiency and minimize changeovers and downtime. The supervisor continuously adjusts the plan based on production performance, equipment downtime, material availability, quality issues, and customer priorities, monitoring execution against plan and proactively identifying and escalating capacity constraints, delays, and delivery risks.
The role supervises the accurate and timely creation, release, and closure of production work orders, ensuring they contain the correct product, quantity, BOM, routing, and traceability requirements, and maintains planning and master data accuracy, including lead times, BOMs, routings, and inventory parameters. On the materials side, the supervisor ensures raw materials, packaging, and other production requirements are available, coordinating with Purchasing and Warehouse to anticipate and resolve shortages or delays, maintaining accurate inventory levels and strong lot/batch traceability, leading cycle counts, and investigating inventory discrepancies with a focus on root cause and corrective action. The role also ensures proper material storage, handling, FIFO practices, and timely return of unused production materials.
Warehouse coordination is a core part of the role: staging materials according to production priorities, ensuring materials are correctly identified and delivered to production when needed, coordinating receiving, storage, transfers, and finished goods movements while maintaining accurate ERP transactions, and ensuring non-conforming, damaged, or unidentified materials are properly segregated and coordinated with Quality. The supervisor acts as the key link across Planning, Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, Sales, Customer Service, and Quality, communicating production priorities, schedule changes, material constraints, and delivery risks clearly and proactively, and works with Sales and Customer Service to align production priorities with realistic shipping commitments. The role also supervises warehouse and material-handling personnel, sets clear daily priorities, maintains accountability for safety, inventory accuracy, and process adherence, and analyzes deviations between plan and actual results to drive corrective action.
