Principal Mechanical Motor Design Engineer
East Texas | Rotating Equipment & Electrification
Design Large-Scale Rotating Equipment Built for Demanding Applications
We're seeking a Principal Mechanical Motor Design Engineer to help develop large AC traction motors and generators used in demanding industrial applications worldwide.
This is not simply a design role.
It's an opportunity to influence reliability, manufacturability, performance, testing, validation, and continuous improvement across large-scale electric drive systems.
If you're the type of engineer who enjoys seeing products move from concept through manufacturing and testing, this may be the opportunity you've been looking for.
The Opportunity:
You'll join a team responsible for designing and supporting sophisticated rotating equipment systems where engineering decisions have a direct impact on product performance, manufacturability, and long-term reliability.
Working closely with electrical engineering, manufacturing, testing, and drafting teams, you'll help shape the next generation of electric drive technologies.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
Unlike many engineering roles that focus on a narrow portion of the product lifecycle, this position offers broad ownership and direct involvement from concept development through manufacturing, testing, validation, and continuous improvement.
Engineers are attracted to this opportunity because it provides:
- Ownership across the entire product lifecycle
- Direct interaction with manufacturing and testing teams
- Exposure to large-scale motors, generators, and rotating equipment
- A highly collaborative, low-ego engineering culture

- Meaningful influence on product design and engineering decisions
- Variety of work spanning design, manufacturing support, testing, troubleshooting, and product improvement
- Long-term technical and leadership growth opportunities
- Lead mechanical design of large motors and generators
- Design rotors, shafts, housings, cooling systems, bearings, and sealing arrangements
- Develop detailed CAD models and production drawings
- Support product development from concept through production release
- Work directly with manufacturing teams to improve product quality and manufacturability
- Support product testing and validation programs
- Troubleshoot design, manufacturing, and field issues
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Conduct technical reviews and engineering evaluations
- Support drafting personnel and drawing release activities
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience designing motors, generators, or rotating equipment
- Strong 3D CAD experience
- Solid working knowledge of GD&T
- Experience supporting manufacturing environments
- Product testing and validation experience
- Knowledge of rotors, shafts, bearings, cooling systems, and rotating machinery
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Rail / Locomotive
- Industrial Motor Manufacturing

- Industrial Electrification
The strongest candidates have personally:
- Designed rotating equipment
- Released products to manufacturing
- Worked directly with manufacturing teams
- Supported testing and validation efforts
- Solved product performance issues
- Owned products throughout the full development lifecycle
Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation will be competitive and aligned with experience, technical expertise, and overall qualifications.
Additional benefits include:
- Annual bonus opportunity
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Retirement savings program
- Paid vacation and holidays
- Relocation assistance
- Long-term technical and leadership development opportunities
Exceptional candidates may also be considered for higher-level positions based upon experience and demonstrated expertise.
Relocation Assistance:
Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
East Texas offers a lower cost of living, excellent outdoor recreation opportunities, and a quality of life that continues to attract experienced engineering professionals from across the country.
