Chief Financial Officer, Commercial Construction

Location: Topeka, KS (Primarily office-based with periodic site visits)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $120,000 to $150,000 per year, plus performance bonus

Become the financial partner to ownership at a growing commercial construction company and shape its next stage of growth.

Must-Haves

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting or financial leadership in the construction industry
  • Strong command of construction accounting, job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion
  • Experience with project forecasting, cost-to-complete, change orders, retainage, and subcontractor commitments
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management expertise
  • Experience working with banks, sureties, insurance providers, and outside CPA firms
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills
  • Ability to explain financials clearly to Project Managers and non-financial leaders

What You'll Do

  • Lead all accounting and financial reporting as the company's CFO
  • Oversee construction accounting, job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion reporting
  • Drive project forecasting, gross margin analysis, and project profitability
  • Partner with Project Managers to catch cost overruns and margin risks early
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Manage billing, collections, retainage, working capital, and liquidity
  • Own banking, bonding, insurance, and CPA relationships
  • Lead and develop the accounting team
  • Deliver timely financial analysis and strategic recommendations to ownership
  • Improve and integrate financial and construction technology systems

Nice-to-Haves

  • Hands-on Vista by Viewpoint experience (strongly preferred)
  • Procore experience, especially Procore Financials (highly preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
