The Surgical Technologist (ST) is an integral member of the surgical team who works under the supervision of the surgeon and alongside the registered nurse to ensure the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under optimal conditions.The ST maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions throughout the surgical procedure. The ST must be knowledgeable of a multitude of surgical procedures and able to implement policies and practices related to surgery.
Position at the main OR requires participation in the surgical call rotation to provide 24-hour coverage for emergency and trauma cases.
Sign-on bonus of $7,500! *
Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience in Surgical Technology required.
Pay Range: $23.31-$36.36/hour
Employment Type: Full Time, 72 hours every 2 weeks
Schedule: Two 8 hour shifts and two 10 hour shifts, four days a week
Requirements: Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience in Surgical Technology, BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required.
Clinical and Technical Practice
Prepares the operating room by ensuring required instruments, equipment, implants, medications, and supplies are available, sterile, and functioning properly.
Establishes and maintains the sterile field throughout surgical procedures using aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by selecting, preparing, and passing instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently.
Demonstrates proficiency in surgical instrumentation, specialty and emergency equipment, power equipment, and robotic technology.
Assists with patient positioning, draping, specimen handling, and application of dressings while maintaining patient safety.
Demonstrates competency across multiple surgical specialties and adapts to varying case complexity and surgeon preferences.
Patient Safety and Infection Prevention
Performs surgical counts in accordance with hospital policy to prevent retained surgical items.
Maintains a safe surgical environment by recognizing and responding appropriately to breaks in sterile technique, equipment malfunctions, and emergent situations.
Adheres to infection prevention, patient safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
Processes instruments effectively to include cleaning, inspection, and testing for proper functioning, assembly and sterilization according to standards.
Collaboration and Communication
Collaborates effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, registered nurses, sterile processing personnel, and other members of the perioperative team to promote efficient workflow and positive patient outcomes.
Communicates professionally and effectively to support safe, coordinated patient care.
Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues.
Operational Excellence and Professional Accountability
Cleans, disinfects, and prepares operating rooms for subsequent procedures while ensuring appropriate room turnover and supply replenishment.
Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks such as inventory, stocking and cleaning of assigned areas.
Maintains accountability for surgical instruments, supplies, and implants.
Participates in assigned on-call coverage for evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency procedures (main OR only).
Complies with organizational policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
Maintains competency through ongoing education and professional development.
