JOB SUMMARY
The Director has overall responsibility for the company’s Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) program. This includes leadership to maintain EHS&S compliance and continuous improvement. EHS&S supports operations of biologic contract development and manufacturing organization.
The Head of EHS&S provides leadership to establish high standards of compliance and collaboration for a robust safety and sustainability culture. The Director develops and implements strategies, processes, systems, procedures, and metrics to achieve excellent EHS&S outcomes and performance across multiple sites and locations.
Working with leaders, EHS&S team members, SMEs, and colleagues across the organization, the Head of EHS&S will align and implement appropriate governance, best practices, fill gaps, and drive maturity of the EHS&S program. The Head of EHS&S will develop and manage the budget and resources of a matrix organization. The Director must be an effective leader, mentor, and coach who thinks strategically and is effective tactically.
Responsibilities include the primary global contact for response, incident reporting and investigations, environmental permits, reporting, and risk management. Represents the functional area to clients, auditors, and regulatory agencies. This position is responsible for EHS&S metrics, reporting, compliance reviews, risk management, and ensuring compliance of applicable regulations. Oversees all applicable EHS&S programs for the company such as: LOTO, confined space entry, industrial hygiene, hazard communication, PPE, workers compensation, emergency management, etc. Coordinates with operations to identify and mitigate risks with effective engineering controls, procedures, and training.
Oversees EHS&S support for multiple sites. Develops subject matter experts in several areas. Applies approaches to develop and implement strategies, technologies, or other major improvements. Directs, reviews, and approves EHS&S documents.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages EHS&S program activities and ensures EHS&S compliance
- Develops and implements changes to improve EHS&S performance
- Planning, reporting, metrics, administration activities
- Wastewater and Hazardous Waste programs
- Monitor the work of contracted EHS&S suppliers and service providers
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
BS degree in an environmental, health, safety, engineering, or scientific field of study plus 15 years’ related experience.
Language Ability
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Communicates complex issues and subject matter effectively to executive management and/or staff members. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to manage multiple programs/projects and to work well within a team environment.
Math Ability
Problem solving and application of sound engineering or scientific skills.
Physical Demands
- Incumbents may be exposed to toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, and dangerous tools and equipment.
- Off-hours response time to system anomaly.
- Must comply with all applicable rules and regulations of the company and the Pharmaceutical / Biotech industry including FDA regulations such as cGMP, GDP, Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and company regulations such as the employee handbook.
Computer Skills
MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Outlook, MS Project.
