Critical Care Intensivist - Location: University Hospital, San Antonio, TX

Position Type: Full-time, Employed (W2)

University Health is in the midst of the largest expansion in its history, highlighted by the development of two new full-service hospitals that will enhance access to specialty, inpatient, emergency, and diagnostic services.

We are seeking Critical Care Intensivists to support ICU services across our expanding network of community hospitals. This position will be based exclusively at our Level IV community hospital settings, where you will play a key role in building and advancing critical care services as part of our system-wide growth. This role follows a 7-on / 7-off schedule (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM), with opportunities for additional shifts based on departmental needs and individual interest. As part of the cohesive intensivist team, may cover occasional night shifts at University Hospital's medical ICU.

In this position, you will care for a diverse ICU population, including medical, postoperative, and complex pulmonary/critical care patients, within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. As part of our ongoing expansion, you will help extend high-quality critical care to community-based settings, supported by strong institutional resources, established clinical protocols, and access to a larger academic health system.

Role Highlights:

  • Provide ICU coverage and management of critically ill patients

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care

  • As part of the cohesive intensivist team, may help to cover occasional night shifts at University Hospital's medical ICU.

  • Participate in rounds, care planning, and escalation decisions

  • Support resident and fellow education

  • Engage in quality improvement and program development initiatives

Qualifications

  • Board-certified/board-eligible, fellowship-trained in Critical Care Medicine

  • Eligible for Texas medical licensure

  • Strong clinical judgment and teamwork skills
