Costa Auto Care and Tire · Family-owned since 1984

You're the tech other techs bring the hard ones to. The intermittent no-start. The network fault two other shops gave up on. You're good, and you're productive, and you want to be paid like it without working Saturdays.

We're a family-owned independent shop that has served Oakland for over 40 years. The owner came up as a diagnostic tech. That means your diag work is understood here, not second-guessed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex automotive electrical systems, drivability concerns, intermittent problems, and CAN bus/network communication faults.

  • Perform accurate diagnostics and general automotive repairs across a wide variety of vehicle makes and models.

  • Utilize advanced scan tools, oscilloscopes, wiring diagrams, and factory-level diagnostic procedures to identify and resolve vehicle concerns.

  • Complete thorough digital vehicle inspections (DVIs), including clear photographs, accurate findings, and detailed repair recommendations.

  • Verify completed repairs through quality-control inspections, diagnostic confirmation, and road testing when necessary.

  • Maintain a production goal of 50-52 flagged hours within a 40-hour workweek while prioritizing repair accuracy and workmanship.

  • Collaborate with service advisors to communicate diagnostic findings, repair needs, and vehicle conditions clearly.

  • Mentor developing automotive technicians and contribute to the shop's technical knowledge and diagnostic capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional automotive repair experience performing A-Level diagnostic and repair work.

  • Advanced experience diagnosing electrical systems, CAN bus/network communication faults, and complex drivability concerns.

  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical testing, wiring diagrams, factory-level diagnostic procedures, and scan tool operation.

  • Ability to independently diagnose and repair vehicles across multiple makes and models.

  • Own professional automotive diagnostic tools.

  • ASE Master Technician certification or ASE L1 Advanced Engine Performance Specialist certification preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality repairs efficiently, verify completed work, communicate effectively with service advisors, and support less-experienced technicians.

Compensation & Benefits

This position combines guaranteed hourly compensation with additional earnings based on technician productivity.

Compensation:

  • Guaranteed Base Rate: $50 per hour for a 40-hour workweek.

  • Annualized Base Pay: $104,000 based on 52 full workweeks.

  • Production Bonus: Additional $60 for every flagged hour exceeding 40 in a workweek.

  • Earning Example: Producing 52 flagged hours per week results in $720 in weekly production bonuses, or approximately $141,440 in annualized total compensation over 52 weeks.

  • Quality-Based Production: Comeback hours are excluded from production bonus calculations.

Production bonuses and annualized earnings examples depend on actual flagged hours and eligible paid weeks. Earnings above the guaranteed hourly base are not guaranteed.

Benefits:

  • Health insurance

  • Paid vacation

  • Paid sick leave

  • Monday-Friday work schedule

  • No weekend shifts

  • Opportunity to grow into a Shop Foreman position
