Full job description
Primary Care Physician (MD/DO)
WellMed Medical Group – San Antonio, TX (Northern Hills)
WellMed is seeking a Primary Care Physician to join our Northern Hills clinic in San Antonio. This is an opportunity to practice high-quality, patient-centered medicine in a setting designed to support both clinical excellence and provider satisfaction.
In this role, you will care for a primarily Medicare Advantage population within a value-based care model that prioritizes outcomes over volume. Physicians typically see 14 to 16 patients per day, allowing for more meaningful patient interactions and a focus on whole-person care. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary care team to address each patient’s physical, behavioral, and social health needs. Our approach is built to give you the time, tools, and support needed to deliver comprehensive, coordinated care.
This is a highly collaborative environment where physicians are empowered to practice at the top of their license, with strong clinical support and access to data that helps drive informed decision-making.
Why WellMed
WellMed, part of the Optum family of businesses, is a leading organization focused on advancing value-based care for older adults. Our model is built around prevention, coordination, and long-term health outcomes, allowing providers to focus on what matters most: their patients.
At WellMed, physicians benefit from:
- A value-based care model designed around quality, not volume
- Smaller patient panels and manageable daily schedules
- A collaborative, team-based environment with strong clinical support
- Access to advanced tools, data, and resources through Optum
- The stability and innovation of a national organization with a strong local presence in Texas
We are committed to supporting our clinicians both professionally and personally. Our culture centers on teamwork, inclusion, and continuous improvement, with opportunities to contribute ideas that enhance care delivery at scale.
As part of our value-based model, physicians are eligible for an annual quality bonus tied to patient outcomes and performance metrics.
