Schmidt Associates is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead project grading, drainage, stormwater, and utility design efforts across a variety of project types. This role will serve as a technical leader and mentor within the civil engineering team, coordinating multidisciplinary projects while ensuring design excellence, quality standards, and client satisfaction.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem solver with strong technical expertise, project leadership experience, and a passion for mentoring emerging professionals.
Responsibilities
* Lead civil engineering design for site development projects including grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, and erosion control.
* Coordinate civil engineering efforts with architects, landscape architects, MEPTC engineers, and external consultants.
* Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality standards, budgets, and deadlines.
* Prepare and oversee construction documents, technical specifications, calculations, reports, permitting submissions, and cost estimates.
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff and support team development.
* Participate in client meetings, presentations, and project planning discussions.
* Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals during construction administration.
* Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and permitting requirements.
* Support continuous improvement of office standards, procedures, and best practices.
* Contribute to business development efforts and maintain strong client relationships.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
* 8+ years of related civil engineering experience preferred.
* Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain licensure quickly.
* Strong experience with site development, grading, drainage, utility, and stormwater design.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D required; Revit experience is a plus.
* Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and mentoring staff.
* Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills.
* Familiarity with permitting processes and applicable codes/regulations.
* Desire to contribute to a collaborative, servant leadership culture.
