We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance to oversee our organization's financial operations and to guide key strategic decisions. This position will play a critical role in the strategic direction of our financial planning, budget management, and cost-benefit analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and managing our annual audit.
Responsibilities:
1. Direct the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to government agencies, and tax returns.
2. Collaborate with executive leadership to develop financial strategies across all units.
3. Supervise the finance team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
4. Oversee all financial and accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
5. Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.
6. Develop and implement financial policies and procedures, and ensure these are followed across all departments.
7. Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the executive leadership.
8. Oversee the preparation and planning of all fiscal reports, tax returns, and statements.
9. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports.
10. Implement and manage purchasing strategies to meet budgetary goals.
11. Develop strategies to maximize ROI and meet the company's financial objectives.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. An MBA or related advanced degree is preferred.
2. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation is preferred.
3. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position, preferably in the government or nonprofit sector.
4. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
5. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
6. Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.
7. Proven experience in financial project management.
8. An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written skills.
9. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and current financial software.
10. Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence – ability to motivate staff.
11. Excellent problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
