Senior Power Engineer - Power System Studies

Stafford, TX | $120,000 to $190,000 per year | Full-time

An employee-owned electrical power and control systems engineering firm is hiring a Senior Power Engineer for its Stafford, Texas office in the Houston area. You will lead power system studies and full electrical design packages, taking projects from load analysis and relay settings through PE-ready drawings, factory testing, and field commissioning. The role supports the firm's growing electrical power practice and includes about 25% travel.

Schedule

Full-time, based in Stafford, TX, with about 25% travel, including air travel. Occasional after-hours support is required for client needs.

Compensation

$120,000 to $190,000 per year, plus a discretionary bonus for hours worked beyond 80 in a two-week pay period.

What You'll Do

You will lead electrical power load studies and build power system models, then generate and implement protective relay settings. From those studies, you will develop complete construction and specification packages ready for Professional Engineer stamp and authority plan check. These include single line diagrams, plot plans and area and building details, lighting, grounding, conduit and cable schedules, equipment and installation details, and construction specifications. Some projects also call for area classification drawings, motor and breaker schematics, wiring diagrams, and lightning protection.

You will prepare electrical bills of material and work with vendors on equipment pricing. In the field, you will complete verification walkdowns, as-build existing electrical and E&I infrastructure, run factory acceptance tests, and support start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

You will keep Project Managers updated on technical progress, quality, budget, and change orders. You will also provide technical input on labor, expense, and procurement costs for new project proposals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • 5+ years of experience developing electrical construction and specification packages for PE stamp and authority plan review
  • Experience producing load studies, single line diagrams, grounding, lighting, conduit and cable schedules, and construction specifications
  • Working knowledge of the NEC and the IEEE 3000 Standards Collection
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to travel about 25%, including by air

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to earn it within 2 years
  • Experience with ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower
  • Protective relay settings experience with GE Multilin or SEL relays
  • Knowledge of API RP 500 hazardous area classification
  • Experience with area classification drawings, motor and breaker schematics, and lightning protection
  • Factory acceptance testing and commissioning experience
