Perinatal Sonographer – Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Department: Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Location: HCA Florida Brandon Hospital – MFM
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Hours: 40 hours per week
Weekends: None
Shift: Day

Job Summary and Qualifications
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine department is seeking an experienced Perinatal Sonographer to join our outpatient MFM team. The Perinatal Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for patients with routine and high-risk pregnancies and works closely with Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical skills, excellent knowledge of fetal and maternal anatomy, attention to detail, and the ability to provide compassionate care to patients experiencing high-risk pregnancies.
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality obstetric ultrasound examinations according to established protocols.
- Perform detailed fetal anatomy surveys and follow-up examinations.
- Perform fetal growth assessments and biophysical profiles.
- Obtain accurate fetal measurements, including appropriate biometric measurements and cardiac anatomy views
- Perform cervical length exams
- Perform fetal Doppler studies as ordered, including umbilical artery Dopplers.
- Perform first-trimester and nuchal translucency examinations.
- Assist in the evaluation of suspected fetal anomalies and other high-risk pregnancy conditions.
- Recognize abnormal sonographic findings and promptly communicate pertinent findings to the MFM physician.
- Obtain and document technically adequate images and measurements for physician interpretation.
- Provide ultrasound guidance for amniocentesis and CVS procedures performed by the physician.
- Maintain efficient patient flow while prioritizing diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.
- Provide professional, compassionate, and patient-centered care throughout the examination.
- Explain procedures and answer patient questions within the scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and imaging systems.
- Follow departmental, hospital, regulatory, and infection-control policies.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment and report technical concerns appropriately.
- Participate in department quality-improvement initiatives and continuing education.
- Collaborate effectively with MFM physicians, nurses, and administrative staff.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- (RDMS) Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with OB Certification
Preferred qualifications:
- 1+ year of obstetric/perinatal sonography experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a Maternal-Fetal Medicine or high-risk obstetric practice preferred.
- Experience performing detailed fetal anatomy surveys.
- Experience with fetal growth, biophysical profiles, cervical length, and amniotic fluid assessment.
- Experience performing fetal Doppler studies, including umbilical artery Dopplers.
- Experience with first-trimester ultrasound and nuchal translucency examinations.
- Experience evaluating high-risk pregnancies and suspected fetal abnormalities.
- Ability to work directly with MFM physicians.
