Shriners Children's St. Louis is recruiting three full-time surgeons to support the continued growth and evolution of its pediatric orthopedic program:

• General Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

• Pediatric Spine Surgeon

• Pediatric Upper Extremity/Hand Surgeon

These opportunities offer predominantly subspecialty-focused practices, thoughtfully structured schedules, and the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Shriners Children's provides specialty care to children up to age 18, regardless of their families' ability to pay or insurance status. Its culture is grounded in compassion, integrity, accountability, innovation, evidence-based practice, education, and research.
THE PRACTICE
Approximately 80-90% of each surgeon's clinical time will be dedicated to their primary area of expertise, with the remaining 10-20% focused on general pediatric orthopedics based on subspecialty and patient demand.
A typical week includes:

• Two dedicated operating room block days

• Two full clinic days

• One flex day for administration, program development, research, or other nonclinical activities

Operating room block time is allocated according to subspecialty needs and patient volume.
Surgeons work within a collaborative care model supported by Physical and Occupational Therapy, Pediatric Orthotics and Prosthetics Services, and 3.0 FTE Advanced Practice Providers.
Call is shared on a rotating basis and is home-based, with no trauma or emergent responsibilities. Outreach clinics are primarily covered by Advanced Practice Providers, allowing surgeons to focus on onsite operative and clinical care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for children with orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions

• Provide evidence-based surgical and nonsurgical care

• Manage preoperative, postoperative, inpatient, and outpatient care

• Perform operative procedures in accordance with institutional safety standards

• Collaborate with pediatricians, physiatrists, anesthesiologists, physical therapists, and other specialists

• Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and clinical governance

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Contribute to medical education, research, and scholarly activities as appropriate

• Meet established productivity, quality, and institutional performance standards

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have:

• An MD or DO from an accredited medical school

• Completion of an ACGME-accredited orthopedic surgery residency

• Board certification or eligibility through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery

• Eligibility for active, unrestricted medical licensure in Missouri

• Eligibility for active DEA registration

• BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certification

• Eligibility for hospital credentialing and clinical privileges

• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills

• The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary care environment

ROLE-SPECIFIC FELLOWSHIP TRAINING

• General Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

• Completion of an accredited pediatric orthopedic fellowship is required.

• Pediatric Spine Surgeon

• Completion of accredited pediatric orthopedic and pediatric spine fellowships is required.

• Pediatric Upper Extremity/Hand Surgeon

• Completion of an upper extremity or hand fellowship is required. Additional fellowship training in pediatric orthopedic surgery is preferred but not required.
  

EXPERIENCE
One to three years of post-fellowship or equivalent pediatric orthopedic experience is preferred. Recent fellowship graduates will be considered based on their training and clinical exposure.
COMPENSATION
The annual compensation range for each position is $421,808.40-$703,014 . Compensation is determined by relevant experience and departmental equity.
