Zoox's Advanced Hardware Engineering team is responsible for the design, development, and innovation of sensor technology, networking, and the main compute platform for our vehicles. In this role, you will work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team to architect our next-generation compute platforms, both on-vehicle and in-cloud. You will leverage your industry experience and analytical mindset to ensure Zoox remains at the leading edge of autonomous driving through careful balancing of hardware ranging from off-the-shelf to full-custom silicon. This is a hands-on role that will directly interface with top executives and practitioners alike, and will shape the future of Zoox to ensure our competitive success.
In this role, you will:
Provide engineering leadership for high-performance Compute modulesArchitect next-generation compute systems and define the technical roadmap at the system and silicon levelWork extensively with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, vehicle-integration, data-flow architects) to ensure product success. This will include frequent executive-level presentations.Drive teams to consensus in an environment of passionate stakeholdersDemonstrate technical ownership and leadership of your program from concept through to fleet deploymentAble to support assessment and optimization our training platforms
Qualifications
BS or MS in electrical/computer engineering or equivalent15+ years of professional work experienceSolid compute engineering fundamentalsDeep understanding of optimizing hardware to support AI/ML softwareTrack record of successful complex product deliveryExperience in computer system architecture design and optimizationPassion for problem-solving (both technical and organizational)Experience with CM, ODM, and JDM models, as well as working with silicon vendors

Experience optimizing cloud (AWS) resources for model trainingExperience managing engineering teams or mentoring junior engineers Experience in functional safety/ISO 26262/FMEAExperience in automotive/EV/AV/aerospace/space or similar industriesExperience in software/automation developmentHands-on lab experience, such as soldering, and experience with lab equipment (power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer)Familiarity with common industry technologies and protocols, including GPUs, CAN, Ethernet, GNSS, GMSL, NVMe, M.2, PCIe, optical networking, Linux, QNX
