Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our compassionate therapy team at Mend Force Physical Therapy. Located in Oakland, New Jersey, this full-time, onsite role provides an unique opportunity for a proactive PTA to utilize their expertise in a hospital setting, working collaboratively with physical therapists and other healthcare professionals to enhance the quality of patient care.

Work Environment
The therapy team operates in a collaborative, supportive hospital environment that fosters professional growth and teamwork. As a PTA, you will work onsite, directly interacting with patients in various stages of their recovery process. The schedule is Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, promoting a work-life balance while allowing you to make a significant impact in your community.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist, focusing on improving patients' strength, balance, and mobility.
- Help patients perform therapeutic exercises and modalities as prescribed, actively supporting them in their rehabilitation journeys.
- Monitor patients during their treatment sessions, providing necessary feedback and encouragement to enhance their performance.
- Document patient progress meticulously, ensuring accurate records are maintained and communicating any changes in condition or response to treatment to the supervising therapist.
- Educate patients and their families on home exercise programs and safe mobility techniques, ensuring they have the tools to succeed outside of therapy sessions.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver coordinated patient care and address any comprehensive patient needs that arise.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, contributing to the ongoing development of the therapy department's protocols and best practices.
Patient Population / Client Focus
In this role, you will work primarily with a diverse patient population in a hospital setting. This includes individuals recovering from surgeries, traumatic injuries, and those dealing with chronic conditions such as arthritis or cardiovascular diseases. Your work will significantly contribute to their recovery by facilitating mobility and functional independence, playing a critical role in their journey towards achieving their rehabilitation goals.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in physical therapy or a related field.
- Active New Jersey Physical Therapist Assistant license is required.
- Strong clinical knowledge and excellent communication skills are necessary for effective patient care and collaboration with other professionals.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred, along with a commitment to ongoing education and certification in relevant areas.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required for potentially visiting patients’ homes, as well as for team meetings or training sessions within the area.
Preferred Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a PTA, preferably within a hospital or similar clinical environment.
- Experience with geriatric patients or those with neurological conditions is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems for documenting patient progress and managing treatment plans.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of $60,000 to $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
