Job Title: Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (FMG, DO or MD)

Compensation
Salary Range: $86,000+ per year DOE

Location: Nassau County, Long Island, NY - Onsite

Position Summary

As a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of clinical documentation within a large hospital system. This position serves as a bridge between providers and coding professionals, supporting accurate ICD-10 coding, regulatory compliance, quality reporting, and reimbursement. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical knowledge, expertise in documentation improvement, and the ability to educate providers on best practices in clinical documentation.

Responsibilities

Schedule / Shift

  • Shift details: Day Shift
  • Hours per week: 40
  • Contract length (if applicable): Direct Hire

Key Duties:

  • Perform clinical documentation reviews and audits to ensure accurate and complete provider documentation and ICD-10 code capture
  • Collaborate with providers and coding teams to support accurate APR-DRG and MS-DRG assignment
  • Develop compliant clinical queries and communicate with providers to obtain timely responses
  • Analyze, monitor, and report CDI metrics while identifying opportunities for performance improvement
  • Educate providers and leadership on clinical documentation best practices, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements

Requirements

Education

  • Required: One of the following: MD, DO, or MBBS with ECFMG Certification
  • Preferred (if applicable): N/A

Licenses & Certifications

  • Required: At least one of the following:
    • AHIMA Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
    • ACDIS Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
    • AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Additional certifications (if applicable): N/A

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of clinical medicine, pathophysiology, differential diagnoses, and treatment protocols
  • Advanced understanding of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines and documentation standards
  • Experience with CDI audits, provider education, denial management, and clinical appeals
  • Proficiency with DRG grouper software and electronic health record systems such as Epic or Meditech
