Are you looking for your next opportunity? SompoRe has a unique opportunity for a Reinsurance Actuarial Trainee on our Reinsurance team. Our Trainee Program is an 18-to-24 month program beginning in late Spring/early Summer 2026 designed to equip you with the essential business and technical skills needed to build a successful career in the reinsurance industry. As an Actuarial Trainee you will receive hands-on training by working closely with highly experienced actuaries, gaining in-depth knowledge of the organization's business units and pricing philosophy. The program combines on-the-job learning, workplace mentoring, and directed self-study, providing a robust foundation for a career as an actuary. Our Trainees work directly on projects, building relationships and identifying underwriting and customers’ needs. Location: This position will be based out of our Garden City, NY or New York, NY office. On-The-Job Learning Reinsurance requires a high degree of experience and expertise – something you can’t learn in the classroom. SompoRe Trainees are immersed in the day-to-day activities of their team. Trainees receive training in deals across various lines of business, developing the requisite skillset while fostering interaction with other actuaries and underwriters. They also gain a specialized exposure in a particular line of business to enhance their understanding of specific products, and the metrics used to evaluate portfolios. Activities, Learning and Development Directed Self-Study Professional designation courses give new Trainee professionals technical knowledge of insurance operations and industry practices. Sompo supports our employees pursuing continuing education opportunities by covering the cost for fees and textbooks, offering time off work to take exams and providing additional compensation for successful completion of many Designations. Qualifications, Skills and Experience Sompo employees are some of the best and brightest in the industry. When recruiting the next generation of Sompo employees, we consider graduating Seniors, and recent college graduates with previous internship experience working in the (re)insurance as well as financial services industries. Additional requirements include: • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a STEM major (e.g., Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics, Engineering, etc.) and strong academic performance • Graduation date between May 2026 and May 2027 • Genuine interest in developing a career in the (re)insurance industry • Successfully passed and/or be sitting for at least one actuarial exam • Ability to articulate ideas clearly through written and verbal communication • Solution-oriented mindset and data analytical skills • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others • Adaptability to new challenges and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment • Demonstrates integrity, accountability and reliability in fulfilling roles and responsibilities • Detail-oriented, organized, and tech-savvy (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint) • Local to the desired office location or able to arrange housing and transportation in the area to support an in-office working arrangement while in the Trainee Program • Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction Salary Range: $75,000 – $82,500 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
