Full job description

Our client, a leader in autonomous mobility solutions, is seeking a Sustaining Engineer to join their team. As a Sustaining Engineer, you will be part of the Engineering Support Department supporting the Fleet Reliability and Maintenance Teams. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive mindset, which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Sustaining Engineer

Location: Foster City, CA

Pay Range: $76-82$/hour + Bnefits

What's the Job?

  • Support the Level 3 Toyota Highlander test fleet by diagnosing and resolving vehicle and hardware issues across OEM systems and Zoox integrated autonomous vehicle hardware.
  • Drive end-to-end resolution of field and manufacturing issues, including root cause analysis, solution development, validation, and deployment into the service fleet.
  • Lead design updates and improvements to enhance reliability, durability, and fleet availability of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Manage Engineering Change Requests and execute validation and testing plans to verify long-term effectiveness of implemented solutions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing, and service teams to deliver durable, manufacturable, and serviceable solutions aligned with design standards.

What's Needed?

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; MS preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical and mechanical systems engineering within product development, manufacturing, or sustaining environments.
  • Proven ability to improve subsystem reliability using root cause analysis, DFMEA, and validation testing.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Python, SQL, Vector CANalyzer, or Databricks for data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills, proficiency with 3D CAD tools like CATIA, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
