Acute Care and Trauma Surgeon | Sinai Hospital of Baltimore

Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Acute Care Surgeon to join our growing Division of Acute Care Surgery.

This is an excellent opportunity for a surgeon who wants to practice high-acuity trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery in a well-supported, academically engaged environment with an experienced multidisciplinary team.

Located in Northwest Baltimore, Sinai Hospital is a 500-bed acute care teaching hospital and Maryland's third-largest teaching institution with seven residency programs, including an independent general surgical residency program approved for 4 residents per year. Sinai is part of LifeBridge Health, a growing healthcare system that serves more than 1 million patients each year across Maryland. Sinai partners with The George Washington University as a Regional Medical Campus with 30 MS3 and 30 MS4 students hosted annually.

The Opportunity

Our Division of Acute Care Surgery encompasses Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgery. The division currently includes six surgeons and continues to expand, including emergency general surgery coverage at Northwest Hospital.

Sinai is a Level II Trauma Center with a dedicated trauma program manager, database support, and an experienced APP team that provides meaningful clinical support across the ICU, inpatient units, and OR.

What you can expect:

  • Full-time, employed position in Baltimore, Maryland
  • Support from interns to Chief residents, 7 full-time Surgical ICU NP/PAs, and 15 additional inpatient General Surgery NP/PAs on the floors and in the OR
  • Approximately 1-2 weeks of Acute Care Surgery service per month
  • Opportunity for surgical critical care time
  • Approximately 1 week of Northwest Hospital emergency surgery service every 2-3 months
  • 5 weekdays and 1 weekend(24hrs) of required call per month at Sinai
  • Northwest Hospital call is shared among surgeons and separately compensated
  • Opportunity for additional paid call
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits

An Academic Environment with Room to Grow

Sinai offers an ideal setting for physicians who enjoy teaching, mentorship, and academic collaboration.

Our competitive General Surgery Residency Program includes 24 residents in a 5+1-year program, providing frequent opportunities to work with and teach residents.

There are clinical research opportunities with residents, students and other faculty, much of which gets presented at national meetings and published.

The Department of Surgery includes 12 divisions and nearly 200 surgeons and APPs, creating a broad network of clinical expertise and collaboration.

Sinai has longstanding relationships with Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland Shock Trauma, along with a new affiliation with the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences through the development of a regional medical campus. An academic appointment through GW will be obtained upon hiring.

In addition to General Surgery, Sinai sponsors residency programs in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Orthopedics.

A Team Built for Acute Care Surgery

Our surgeons are supported by a strong infrastructure designed to allow them to focus on what they do best - caring for complex surgical patients.

The trauma program was most recently reverified in April 2023 with no citations, reflecting our commitment to quality, patient safety, and excellence in trauma care.

Compensation & Benefits
