Full job description

At Layup Parts, we're developing the technology that will build the future.

We're a manufacturing technology company replacing months of lead time with days, using proprietary software, automation, and advanced manufacturing systems built for speed. Our customers are inventing what's next, in aerospace, defense, robotics, and beyond. To keep up with them, manufacturing has to change. That's what we're building.

We're building our finance and accounting function from the ground up and looking for an Accounting Manager who can own it end to end. As the first dedicated accounting hire, you'll report directly to the COO and take ownership of financial operations, cost accounting, and the systems and controls that will scale with the company.

What You'll Do

  • Build a true cost accounting model for our products, capturing labor, material, equipment, and facility overhead, and use it to inform and set our shop rates and standard costs.
  • Design cost categories that work simultaneously for operational, financial, and accounting needs.
  • Own inventory valuation, including standard rules for depreciation and costing methodology.
  • Design and implement internal financial controls, including bill approval workflows, authorization limits for dollar releases, and background check processes for employees handling company finances.
  • Own revenue recognition policies and sales tax and multi-state compliance as we expand into new states.
  • Build and document processes to audit-ready standard, and prepare investor-ready financial packages and board reporting materials, in support of future institutional financing (Series B/C/D).
  • Lead and drive the monthly and year-end close process in partnership with our outsourced accounting firm.
  • Own AP and AR, including invoicing, collections, vendor payments, and cash application.
  • Evaluate our accounting and ERP systems and lead implementation of new systems as needed.
  • Manage relationships with our outsourced accounting firm, external auditors, tax preparers, and banking and lending partners, including debt covenant tracking and lender reporting, and oversee payroll compliance.
  • Create and maintain budgets and project structures as needed to support accurate cost tracking across the business.

  • What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7 to 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including direct experience in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or a similar production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience building cost accounting models from scratch, including labor, material, and overhead allocation, and using them to set pricing or internal rates.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition, and cost accounting principles.
  • Track record of owning full-cycle accounting end to end, including close, AP/AR, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Experience implementing internal controls and financial governance in an environment with little to no existing structure.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.

  • Bonus Points

  • CPA or active pursuit of CPA license.
  • Experience leading or managing an outsourced accounting/bookkeeping relationship.
  • Experience in a startup or small-team environment, building finance/accounting functions from scratch.
  • Excited by the prospect of 2x or 3x headcount growth, with multi-facility or multi-state expansion.
