Overview

Property | Middle Market & E&S

Responsible for supporting the growth and profitability of a Property portfolio through underwriting, marketing, and relationship management activities. Reviews, evaluates, and underwrites new and renewal business within delegated authority while developing strong agency and broker relationships. Contributes to retention, growth, and service objectives through sound underwriting practices and proactive business development efforts.


How you'll make an impact

  • Uses independent judgment and initiative to support departmental production, retention, and profitability goals.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and underwrites new and renewal business within established underwriting authority and company guidelines.
  • Evaluates account exposures, coverage requests, loss experience, and financial information to determine risk acceptability and appropriate pricing.
  • Analyzes coverage and limit requests and develops underwriting terms and conditions consistent with company objectives.
  • Prices business in accordance with underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and profitability objectives.
  • Maintains responsibility for service, retention, and growth of an assigned renewal book of business and agency relationships.
  • Reviews premium and loss information as part of renewal, endorsement, and mid-term underwriting activities.
  • Assesses risk quality and compliance with underwriting guidelines and recommends appropriate risk management or loss prevention actions.
  • Develops and maintains effective business relationships with retail agents, brokers, carrier partners, and internal stakeholders to attract and retain profitable business.
  • Participates in marketing and business development activities designed to increase submission flow and strengthen agency relationships.
  • Maintains complete and accurate underwriting documentation in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides a high level of customer service to both internal and external business partners.
  • Collaborates with underwriting, brokerage, claims, and service teams to deliver competitive solutions and exceptional client experiences.

Key Details

Territory: Western United States
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Travel: Moderate travel for agency visits, broker meetings, industry events, and business development activities as needed


About You

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • 3+ years of commercial Property underwriting experience.
  • Experience underwriting Middle Market and/or Excess & Surplus (E&S) Property business preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze risk exposures, evaluate coverage needs, and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Self-motivated and entrepreneurial with a strong interest in business development and market-facing activities.

Preferred Experience

  • Property underwriting experience with a focus on Middle Market and/or E&S business.
  • Established broker and agency relationships throughout the Western United States.
  • Strong business development and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to market, generate, and develop new business opportunities.
  • Ability to build and maintain a healthy pipeline of submissions and contribute to regional growth initiatives.
  • Strong technical underwriting, coverage analysis, and risk assessment capabilities.
