Job Title: Assistant General Manager / Field Supervisor
Location: Los Angeles, CA
The Assistant General Manager / Field Supervisor is a senior operations leader responsible for supporting the General Manager in the successful execution of commercial plumbing projects while providing direct leadership to field supervision, foremen, and craft labor. This role ensures projects are properly staffed, safely executed, completed to quality standards, and delivered in accordance with schedule, budget, and contract requirements.
The ideal candidate brings substantial commercial plumbing field experience, strong leadership ability, and the operational discipline required to manage multiple active projects, crews, and supervisors across a large service area or project portfolio.
Core Responsibilities
Operations & Field Leadership
- Partner with the General Manager to oversee daily field operations across multiple commercial plumbing projects.
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable field supervisors, general foremen, foremen, and plumbing craft personnel.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits to assess progress, manpower levels, productivity, safety, quality, material availability, and schedule adherence.
- Establish and maintain consistent field-execution standards across all projects.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for field issues involving labor, installation challenges, coordination conflicts, client concerns, safety matters, and schedule impacts.
- Support the planning and mobilization of new projects, including manpower forecasting, equipment needs, site logistics, and field leadership assignments.
- Ensure field teams understand project scope, installation priorities, production goals, and company expectations.
Manpower, Productivity & Financial Performance
- Plan, allocate, and reassign field labor based on project needs, priorities, skill level, and available workforce.
- Monitor labor productivity against budgets and production targets, taking corrective action when performance falls below expectations.
- Assist in developing labor projections, staffing plans, and workforce strategies for current and upcoming work.
- Work with project leadership to reduce rework, overtime exposure, downtime, material shortages, and avoidable labor inefficiencies.
- Support oversight of tools, equipment, fleet assets, material handling, and jobsite resources.
- Contribute to the company’s profitability by improving field productivity, maintaining schedule performance, and controlling operational costs.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Promote and enforce a proactive safety culture across all jobsites.
- Ensure crews comply with OSHA requirements, company safety policies, site-specific safety plans, and applicable plumbing codes.
- Participate in safety meetings, incident reviews, corrective-action planning, and job hazard assessments.
- Conduct quality-control inspections to verify work meets drawings, specifications, code requirements, manufacturer standards, and company workmanship expectations.
- Drive accountability for clean, organized, professional jobsites.
- Ensure field teams maintain required permits, inspections, testing documentation, and closeout requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressively responsible commercial plumbing experience, including significant field leadership experience.
- 5+ years in a supervisory, superintendent, general foreman, field operations, or multi-project leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience managing crews and field operations on large-scale commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, education, hospitality, mixed-use, multifamily, or high-rise projects.
- Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas, hydronic piping, medical gas, and specialty systems as applicable.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, submittals, schedules, and plumbing plans.
- Experience with manpower planning, labor tracking, productivity management, and field reporting.
- Thorough understanding of OSHA standards, jobsite safety procedures, and quality-control practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly between jobsites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman Plumber license or equivalent trade certification.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Build, PlanGrid, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar construction-management systems.
- Familiarity with BIM/VDC coordination and prefabrication workflows.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Experience supporting annual operating plans, departmental budgets, and business-growth initiatives.
