Job Description:

Compensation: $115,000 - $125,000

This position can be located near any of the following Vitalant locations: Scottsdale, AZ; Denver, CO; Mather, CA; Rosemont, IL; or Pittsburgh, PA.

At Vitalant, continuous improvement plays an important role in helping us save and improve lives through blood donation, research, and innovation. The Business Process Improvement Manager supports this mission by leading initiatives that strengthen the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of processes across the organization. This role partners with national and functional leaders to identify opportunities, prioritize improvement efforts, and lead cross-functional teams in implementing sustainable solutions using Lean and Six Sigma principles.


The Business Process Improvement Manager applies statistical and non-statistical problem-solving tools to analyze processes, identify root causes, and drive measurable improvements. For the National BPI Manager, the role also serves as the Smartsheet administrator, providing expertise in system configuration, user access, and automated workflow development to support streamlined, efficient processes across the enterprise.


As a Business Process Improvement Manager, you'll lead:


  • Process Improvement & Project Execution

Identifies, manages, and executes Lean Six Sigma initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance quality.


Partners with leaders to prioritize initiatives that deliver maximum business value and address critical risks.


Develops control plans and daily management systems to sustain improvements and prevent performance regression.


  • Data & Performance Measurement

Performs data analysis to identify trends, bottlenecks, defects, variation, and waste; recommends corrective actions.


Establishes primary metrics to monitor process outputs and measure performance success; track pre/post improvement results.


Collaborates with Finance to quantify the financial impact of improvements and validate benefits realization.


  • Collaboration & Coaching

Coaches various teams on Lean and structured problem‑solving principles.


Fosters a culture of innovation, engagement, and continuous improvement.


Aligns process improvement goals across teams, identifies redundancies, and coordinates shared stakeholder initiatives.


  • Operational Engagement & Documentation

Conducts “Go and See” visits at points of work to understand processes and staff interactions; ensure improvement solutions fit the operational context.


Partners with Technical Authors to ensure process documentation reflects environment, design, and flow considerations for optimal efficiency.


Executes Post‑Implementation Reviews (PIR) to verify outcomes, capture learnings, and adjust control plans as needed.


Prepares and presents project status and results clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.


  • Smartsheet Administration (“National “ BPI Mgr. only)

Serves as a Smartsheet Administrator, responsible for managing system configuration, user access and permissions, and troubleshooting platform issues.


Collaborates with business stakeholders to assess Smartsheet process needs, and translates requirements into scalable automated solutions, including development of workflows, reports, and dashboards, to support business operations.


  • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.
  • Assures quality customer service to all customers.
  • Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION


  • Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., Business Administration or a technical field) required.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement, statistical tools, and CGMP systems and applications required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS


  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (by a recognized certifying agency) or completion within 12 months required.

EXPERIENCE


  • Five years related experience required.

  • Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement implementation and/or project management experience required.

  • Use of statistical techniques and other problem-solving tools required.

  • Experience in the healthcare, blood banking, or pharmaceutical industry preferred


SKILLS/ABILITIES


  • Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and process design/redesign skills.
  • Proficient use with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Statistical Software (Minitab, SigmaXL, etc.).
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
