Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner APRN Role
The Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular Institute is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN to join the busy and growing Department of Cardiac Surgery.
Under the direction of a cardiothoracic surgeon, the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN is responsible for performing a variety of duties. These duties include but are not limited to first assisting cardiovascular surgical procedures, endoscopic vessel harvesting, preoperative history and physical examination, postoperative care including ICU and stepdown management, inpatient consultants.
The successful candidate will support patient care from the point of admission to discharge including Step-Down, ICU and OR. Duties include managing multiple patients with varied critical illness, comprehensive physical assessments, interpretation of diagnostic results, hemodynamic/ventilator management, and invasive procedures. Experience for skills such as arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, feeding tubes are preferred but not required.
Role: Open to Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners
Location: SVMC 2800 Main Street Bridgeport CT 06606
Setting: Inpatient, cardiac surgical services
Schedule: 13h shifts 3x/week Full-time salaried, rotating includes day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday coverage. If desired, it is the possibility to do permanent night shifts as well.

Qualifications
Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN Master’s program
- Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN in the state of Connecticut
- Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner APRN.
- 1+ years’ experience in cardiovascular surgery preferred and/or 2+ years’ experience as a PA/APRN in critical care setting
- First assistant experience, including endoscopic vein harvesting skills preferred
