This position in the D377 Project Engineering Team, a growing, high profile department is for enthusiastic individuals looking to integrate themselves with operations supervision in planning, preparing, and executing ship construction on the COLUMBIA Program. Engineers will be co-located with operations while they identify and overcome hurdles in upcoming planned or unplanned work. Trades assigned include Pipe Fitters, Steel Trades, Electricians, Pipe Welders, Sheet Metal Fabricators, and Machinists. The ideal candidate is able to work independently, is a self starter, team player, and has strong critical thinking skills with a positive questioning attitude. This role will be working in the Reactor Compartment, Engine Room, and ship exterior to help achieve key milestones.
Responsibilities of this Position Include:
- Building and maintaining a strong working relationship with the trade group and trade supervision (General Foreman) assigned
- Enabling the General Foreman to maximize time planning and preparing trades and trades supervision for upcoming work by:
- Learning and navigating design disclosures, technical work documents, work orders, and various shipyard processes to solve problems the trades face which prevent efficient ship construction
- Identifying problems with work packages and initiating timely corrective actions to enable operations to execute deckplate work
- Communicating operations priorities with the assigned Module Lead and other organizations as required
- Minimizing production problems by ensuring operations understands critical aspects of upcoming work
- Ensuring liabilities are initiated with complete and accurate information
- Reducing liability generation by preventing deckplate problems and leveraging shipyard work practices to adjudicate construction problems vs. unnecessary requests for formal engineering direction
- Supporting trades during their work day, which may include extended hours and occasional weekend support
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Science or higher in an engineering field.
- 5 or more years post-graduate engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Nuclear Propulsion Plant experience beneficial.
- Experience with ship design
- Experience writing technical dispositions
- Experience working in trades or trades supervision
Skills
- A working knowledge of project management principles as they relate to construction.
- An understanding of EB's various business management tools. Including Teamcenter, Electronic Desktop, Artemis, Power BI, and others is preferred.
- An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the shipyard's planning, operations, quality, and test organizations is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated problem solving ability with diverse problem types
- Ability to withstand change in a fast paced environment
- Demonstrated understanding of process improvement principles
