Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 2 years of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 2 years of Telemetry Float Pool experience with 12 months within the last 36 months (3 years).

• Travel experience is preferred.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

Requirements:

Required Skills/Experience: Travelers must have 2-3 years of experience. Experience with drips is required. Must be able to read telemetry strips.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Experience with chest tubes is preferred.

Unit Details: Home unit is 2North telemetry at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. The unit involves a lot of primary-care nursing. Resources are very limited, and nurses will be very busy. Philips telemetry monitors and monitor-tech coverage are used; nurses read and sign off on telemetry strips. Common drips at St. John’s Regional include amiodarone, Cardizem and heparin; they are not titrated. St. John’s Regional has no ventilators, but nurses may encounter BiPAP or CPAP. A hospitalist or intensivist is in house; after hours, the hospitalist is on call and shared between St. John’s Regional and St. John’s Pleasant Valley. There is no IV team; respiratory therapy and pharmacy are available 24/7. At St. John’s Pleasant Valley, the ACU includes telemetry, Med-Surg and DOU patients. At St. John’s Pleasant Valley, ratios are 1:5 for Med-Surg, 1:4 for telemetry and 1:3 for DOU. At St. John’s Pleasant Valley, common drips include Cardizem and amiodarone; they are non-titrating. At St. John’s Pleasant Valley, BiPAP or CPAP is used; the DOU may have chronic ventilators. Common patients at St. John’s Regional include pneumonia, end-stage renal disease, post-cath-lab patients, respiratory distress, CHF and COPD; the population is very sick and high acuity. Common patients at St. John’s Pleasant Valley include post-surgical, orthopedic and cardiac patients.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (nights: Friday, Saturday and Sunday; days: Saturday and Sunday). Holidays: One major and one minor are required. Self-scheduling is available but not guaranteed at St. John’s Pleasant Valley.

Floating Requirements: The position is based at St. John’s Regional Medical Center but requires floating to St. John’s Pleasant Valley, 9 miles away. The clinician will float to 3 North or 2 South, to St. John’s Pleasant Valley to work telemetry or Med-Surg, and may also float to the emergency department to take Med-Surg/telemetry holds. The clinician is first to float. At St. John’s Pleasant Valley, the ACU floats between Med-Surg and telemetry. Travelers will not work in the DOU at St. John’s Pleasant Valley.
