Financial Counseling Representative
On-site | Nashville, TN | Ascension St. Thomas Midtown Hospital
Schedule: [I Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 7:30 AM -4 PM (Off Thursday and Friday) | Job type: Full Time | Pay: $19 hourly ($39,520 Annually)
Help Patients Find Financial Support
Join R1 as a Financial Counselor and help uninsured and underinsured patients understand their coverage and financial assistance options. In this on-site role, you will regularly travel between multiple hospital floors to meet with patients in their rooms, screen for potential eligibility, assist with applications, and explain financial responsibilities with clarity and compassion.
What You’ll Do
Travel between multiple hospital floors and visit uninsured and underinsured patients in their rooms to review their financial needs and available resources.
Screen for potential eligibility for Medicaid, Marketplace coverage, hospital financial assistance, and other programs.
Help patients complete applications and gather required documents.
Clearly explain coverage options, application steps, and next steps.
Discuss estimated patient responsibility and available payment options, and support collection of amounts due in a respectful, patient-centered manner.
Track application status, follow up on missing information, and document activity accurately.
Protect patient privacy and work closely with clinical, Patient Access, and revenue cycle teams.
Balance compassionate service, accuracy, and productivity in a fast-paced hospital setting.
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Compassion and professionalism when discussing sensitive personal and financial information.
Ability to explain complex information in clear, simple language.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple systems and priorities.
Ability to navigate and work efficiently across multiple systems with ease.
Ability to work on-site, move regularly between multiple hospital floors, and meet with patients in their rooms throughout the day.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in financial counseling, eligibility, Patient Access, registration, patient financial services, or revenue cycle.
Knowledge of Medicaid, Marketplace coverage, hospital financial assistance, or similar programs.
Experience completing eligibility screenings, applications, or supporting documentation.

Work Environment
This is an on-site, patient-facing hospital role that requires regular travel between multiple floors and in-person visits with patients in their rooms. You may work around illnesses or injuries, support patients during stressful situations, and spend much of the day moving throughout the facility.
Facility vaccination requirements may apply, including an annual flu vaccination.
A background check and drug screening may be required before hire.
