Job Description:

  • Documents ongoing status, interventions, patient response, and outcomes in an accurate and timely manner. 

  • Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative techniques related to retractors, suctioning, hemostasis, and wound closure.

  • Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate preventative and corrective actions.

  • Assists the physician and surgical team in safely positioning the patient for required procedures.

  • Ensures cleanliness of the care environment and equipment, and proper use of sterile supplies.

  • Applies principles of asepsis and infection control in various surgical cases.

  • Applies knowledge and maintains efficiency during low-frequency, less familiar cases.

  • Anticipates surgeon’s needs and functions without diverting the surgeon's attention from the operative field.

  • Maintains focus and technical dexterity while working rapidly and accurately over long periods.

  • Performs effectively in stressful and emergency situations. 

  • Tailors assistance to the personal styles of surgeons to maximize surgical efficiency and outcomes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of asepsis, healing, infectious disease process, surgical anatomy and physiology, safety issues and operative techniques. [Required]


Education:

  • Technical/Vocational School [Required]


Field of Study:

  • an accredited Surgical Assistant program.


Work Experience:

  • 3+ general operating room experience. [Required]
