Position Summary:The Pharmacy Technician will primarily support a centralized prior authorization clinic in West Michigan, MI. Pharmacy technician support involves resolving and appealing prior authorization claims from Trinity Health Medical Group. The technician may also support other ambulatory pharmacy clinics as needed.
What the Pharmacy Technician will Need:
· Minimum High school education or equivalent.
· Preferred completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.
· Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan (LPhT) AND nationally certified as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
· Minimum One year of pharmacy work experience. Prefer experience in multiple healthcare settings.
· Prefer previous experience working within multi-disciplinary teams
Under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, assists Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.
Trinity Health Pharmacy Solutions – Grand Rapids provides specialty pharmacy care for patients with rare and chronic health conditions which include but are not limited to Hepatitis C, HIV, Multiple Sclerosis, Movement Disorders, Asthma, Pulmonary conditions, Inflammatory conditions, and Cancer. Specialty Pharmacy technicians work in the Call Center and in the prescription filling process. All colleagues will be cross training to ensure top-notch patient care and customer satisfaction.
Education—
· Minimum: High School education or equivalent.
· Preferred: Completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.
Credentials/Licensure—
· Minimum: Pharmacy Technician License (issued by Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing)
Related Experience—
· Preferred: 2+ years pharmacy work experience in outpatient pharmacy setting; billing experience.
Certified Pharmacy Technician by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
Essential Functions—
· Prepares, packages, and distributes medication orders per physician/pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and established policies, procedures, or protocols.
· Contributes to effective and quality operation of the department.
· Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation, files documentation.
· Completes third party adjudication for prescription claims.
· Utilizes computerized prescription dispensing system to complete the following aspect of filling patient prescriptions:
o Create patient profiles.
o Prescription data input
o Third party/insurance processing
o Prescription refilling
· Incoming and outbound calls with patients, provider teams and third parties.
· Insurance prior authorizations; collects necessary information for submission.
· Order packaging and scheduling deliveries.
· Works Epic Multi-Step Order Transmittal work queue.
· Perform simple pharmaceutical calculations including, but not limited to, days’ supply and weight-based dosing calculations.
· Collect payments using point-of-sale system.
· Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
· Excellent customer service skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
