Full job description

We have a new Motel General Manager opportunity in North Charleston, South Carolina, to join a great hotel group. This is a hands-on opportunity to rebuild a team, guide the property through renovation and brand conversion, and establish a strong operational culture.

“Motel General Manager” Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary of $40,000–$60,000, based on experience

“Motel General Manager” Requirements & Qualifications – this is what Hunter will prioritize screening for:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated success leading a large, fast-paced hotel, retail, housing, or comparable service operation
  • Experience supervising, hiring, training, and holding accountable a team of approximately 15 employees
  • Ability to rebuild an underperforming staff and establish clear standards for attendance, service, safety, productivity, and ethical conduct
  • Hands-on leadership style with the willingness to assist at the front desk, walk the property regularly, engage with guests, and respond directly to operational issues
  • Ability to manage approximately 100 or more occupied rooms per day in a high-activity environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate renovation schedules, track rooms going out of and returning to inventory, and communicate progress to leadership
  • Basic proficiency with Excel, property-management systems, email, and operational reporting
  • Ability to develop local business through community outreach, sales flyers, account visits, and relationship building
  • Confident, composed approach to guest concerns, employee accountability, safety issues, loss prevention, and difficult situations
  • Consistent employment history demonstrating reliability and commitment; frequent tenures of less than one year will require explanation
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Availability to work Saturdays and adjust the schedule according to property needs

“Motel General Manager” Preferred Background & Skills:

  • General Manager, Assistant General Manager, or senior operations experience with a large economy or extended-stay motel
  • Experience leading a property of approximately 100 rooms or more
  • Hotel opening, conversion, renovation, or turnaround experience
  • Experience recruiting and developing an entirely new operating team
  • Property-management system experience
  • Background in another high-accountability environment, including military leadership, public safety, loss prevention, or high-volume urban retail operations
  • Strong local sales and community-engagement skills
  • Working knowledge of basic property maintenance and the ability to assess or address minor operational issues
  • Spanish-language skills a plus
  • Familiarity with revenue management, labor controls, budgeting, and gross operating profit
