Full job description
Turner & Townsend is a global professional services company with over 22,000 people in more than 60 countries.
Working with our clients across real estate, infrastructure, energy and natural resources, we transform together delivering outcomes that improve people’s lives. Working in partnership makes it possible to deliver the world’s most impactful projects and programmes as we turn challenge into opportunity and complexity into success.
Our capabilities include programme, project, cost, asset and commercial management, controls and performance, procurement and supply chain, net zero and digital solutions.
We are majority-owned by CBRE Group, Inc., the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm, with our partners holding a significant minority interest. Turner & Townsend and CBRE work together to provide clients with the premier programme, project and cost management offering in markets around the world.
As an Onsite Safety Professional, you serve as the primary safety authority for major campus developments in the East Region. This dynamic, project-based position involves deploying to various client sites for 3- to 5-year engagements to ensure rigorous safety compliance and risk mitigation in high-stakes, critical environments.
You will operate directly from onsite construction trailers, spending 70% of your time in the field providing oversight and 30% on critical documentation. Because construction timelines fluctuate, you must be available on-site five days a week. Your schedule will vary based on project demands, ranging from standard shifts (7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) to extended hours required to resolve safety incidents.
We are actively staffing assignments in Manassas, VA, and Summerville, SC. Relocation consideration will be available for qualified applicants.
What You’ll Do:
- Field Oversight & Compliance: Conduct daily site walks to identify hazards, enforce safety protocols, and monitor the General Contractor’s (GC) adherence to EHS practices, regulatory requirements, and owner-specific deliverables.
- Documentation & Reporting: Manage comprehensive safety records, including leading and lagging indicators, and ensure all EHS data submitted by the GC is accurate, timely, and complete. Issue weekly EHS summaries and conduct monthly GC EHS evaluations.
- Strategic Advisory: Serve as an expert coach and advisor to the site safety committee. Support the construction management team by delivering current data on EHS performance, metrics, and incident management to facilitate informed, timely decision-making.
- Risk Management: Assist in the conduct of risk/hazard assessments and participate in significant incident investigations. Promptly escalate non-compliance issues to both the GC and owner’s management.
- Communication & Collaboration: Lead safety meetings and ensure relevant EHS information is disseminated across the site. Facilitate daily and weekly safety tours with GC and owner’s representatives.
- Project Lifecycle Support: Assist in design reviews across the project lifecycle, including planning, permitting, construction, commissioning, and handover. Contribute to the development of the Data Center Construction EHS Plan (DCCEHSP).
- Operational Execution: Oversee the "Boots on the Ground" program and participate in progress/schedule meetings where EHS is impacted.
What You’ll Need
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience in critical environments (Data Centers, Healthcare, Nuclear, or similar).
- Technical Proficiency: Proven experience in general construction safety and electrical construction, with specific expertise in medium voltage systems. Ability to read/understand architectural drawings and knowledge of construction best practices, building codes, and systems.
- Software Skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Familiarity with MS Project and contract/lease administration.
- Certifications: [Insert relevant certifications, e.g., CSP, CHST, OSHA 30].
- Adaptability: Proven ability to thrive in a traveling, project-based environment.
- Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.
*On-site presence and requirements may change depending on our client's needs*
