Full job description
Location: Manassas, VA
Job Type: Full-Time, Nights (8pm - 5am)
Pay rate: $34 - $40/hr + $3 night shift differential
Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Maintenance Shop Foreman to lead daily operations of our waste service maintenance shop. This role is responsible for supervising technicians, prioritizing repairs, and ensuring our fleet of trash collection vehicles and equipment stays safe, reliable, and on the road.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead maintenance technicians; assign and prioritize daily work
- Oversee repairs and preventive maintenance on refuse trucks and equipment (front load, rear load, roll-off)
- Ensure timely completion of PM schedules and minimize downtime
- Review diagnostics, approve repairs, and manage parts usage
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment
- Coordinate with operations/dispatch on equipment needs and status updates
- Enforce safety standards (OSHA, DOT) and lead safety meetings
- Manage inventory, control costs, and track maintenance metrics
- Assist with hiring, training, and performance management of staff

Preferred
- CDL license
- ASE certifications (medium/heavy truck)
- Welding/fabrication experience
Qualifications
- 5+ years of fleet/heavy equipment maintenance experience (waste industry preferred)
- 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills (CMMS or maintenance tracking systems)
