Core Seminar 4 Course Assistant

The course assistant will bring an understanding of pedagogical approaches to professional art practices, a familiarity with contemporary art institutions, and a passion for supporting students’ development as artists, researchers, and emerging professionals. This role focuses on fostering critical thinking, reflective learning, and active engagement with the art world.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate and support class discussions, peer critiques, and small group activities, helping students reflect on their internships and analyze the role of institutions in shaping art practices.

• Provide feedback and mentorship as students develop case study projects, connecting their hands-on experience with organizational research, critical inquiry, and written analysis.

• Assist students in developing professional materials, such as resumes, artist statements, and proposals, to strengthen their self-presentation and understanding of institutional expectations.

• Support experiential learning opportunities by helping to coordinate guest speakers, site visits, and peer presentations, reinforcing connections between course content and real-world practices.

• Guide students in critically examining curating, programming, and funding structures while considering how these frameworks intersect with individual artistic choices and broader cultural contexts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Be enrolled and in good standing in the BFA or MFA Fine Arts Program

WORK MODE

• On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely. #LI-DNI

HOURLY RATE: $25.13/hr
