Position Summary

Help fulfill the university’s mission by teaching students and providing content expertise in first-year composition and/or advanced composition courses. Applicants from other specialties will also be considered. Additional responsibilities include advising students and other department and university assignments.

Throughout their careers, all BYU–Idaho faculty are expected to actively pursue professional development opportunities in learning and teaching and ongoing scholarly development within their discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Advanced degree required (master’s or doctorate) in English. Primary expertise in composition, with teaching experience in first-year composition and/or advanced composition. Additional expertise in areas such as creative writing and 18th-century British literature considered.

Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to and potential for excellence in teaching.

Work Schedule

VISITING FACULTY: This is a one-year position, renewable annually for up to two years.

Visiting faculty members teach 36–39 load hours annually across the Fall, Winter, and Spring semesters. Teaching responsibilities will primarily include first-year and advanced composition courses; however, additional course assignments may be based on the successful candidate's area of expertise and departmental needs.

In the days immediately preceding and following each semester, faculty members attend meetings, grade papers, participate in professional development activities, and fulfill other faculty responsibilities. Semesters last approximately 14 weeks, and annual faculty appointments cover 47.5 weeks.
