Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >65 miles from facility to be submitted.

• Flu vaccination required for submission. Religious and medical declinations accepted.

• Anyone who worked as Staff at a facility in this program in the last 6 months cannot be submitted.

• Anyone currently working at a facility in this program cannot be submitted.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers allowed with at least 18 months of MedSurg experience and Epic or Cerner experience. 6 North Trauma Surgical: At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience. Wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations required. 5 South Neuroscience: IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, wound care, chest tube, surgical site care, C-collar, abdominal binders, and restraints required. 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, Foley care, IV starts, and chemo administration if certified. 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: Tracheotomy care, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, external catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tube, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, and restraints required. 3 South Orthopedics: PCA pumps, wound care (negative pressure dressing), dressing changes, Foley care, and drains (Hemovacs/JP drains) required. 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: Trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, and nurse-driven Foley protocol required.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemo experience highly preferred.

Unit Details: Float pool may cover 6 North Trauma Surgical (general surgery and vascular surgeries), 5 South Neuroscience (CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, angiogram), 5 North MedSurg/Oncology (all patient types except stroke and MI, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, MS/oncology patients), 4 South Clinical Decision Unit (general MedSurg: COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, end-of-life comfort), 3 South Orthopedics (orthopedic and spine: joint replacements, fractures, fusions, laminectomies), and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology (urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg). Patient ratios may vary by unit, including 1:6 on 5 North MedSurg/Oncology and 1:5 or 1:6 if MedSurg on 3 South Orthopedics. Telemetry is monitored on hallway monitors and by tele techs on the ground floor; RNs are required to interpret and confirm q4 hours strip reading. Unit support includes CNAs at 1:6 for vital signs, ADLs, and glucose checks, plus HUC/receptionist, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and a charge nurse who rarely takes an assignment. Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend rotation: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No call. Holiday expectation: one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. 4-week schedule cycle; no self-scheduling, uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: Float to like units/patient locations: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds.

7 days maximum time off. Facility holidays: 11/25/2026, 11/26/2026, 11/27/2026, 12/24/2026, 12/25/2026, 12/26/2026, 12/31/2026, 01/01/2027, 01/18/2027, 02/09/2027, 02/21/2027, 03/26/2027, 03/26/2027, 03/27/2027, 03/28/2027, 05/30/2027, 05/31/2027, 07/03/2027, 07/04/2027, 09/06/2027.
