Position Overview
Ensign Physical Therapy is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our dynamic team in a full-time capacity at our hospital facility located in New City, New York. Work Environment
This position is primarily onsite within our hospital facility, allowing for direct patient interaction and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals. You will work Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional flexibility to meet individual patient needs and operational demands. The hospital setting provides a unique opportunity to work closely with a diverse patient population and tackle a variety of clinical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of appropriate physical therapy techniques as directed by a licensed physical therapist, following an established plan of care.
- Conduct therapeutic exercises aimed at pain relief, function restoration, and performance optimization for diverse patients.
- Lead patients in both active and passive therapeutic exercises, approaching muscle reeducation, gait training, and functional activities with compassion and effectiveness.
- Employ various physical agents, such as heat, cold, and ultrasound, to enhance treatment efficacy and facilitate patient recovery.
- Monitor patient reactions to treatment and any changes in condition, relaying relevant information to the supervising physical therapist and appropriate staff members.
- Instruct patients on the proper use of assistive devices, including wheelchairs, braces, and orthotic equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive clinical notes, documentation, and conference records that must be finalized within specified timeframes.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and educational in-service programs, contributing to knowledge sharing and professional development.
- Engage in quality assessment and performance improvement initiatives to continuously elevate service standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned that are in line with the role and mission of the organization.
Patient Population / Client Focus
In this role, you will encounter a varied patient demographic, including individuals recovering from surgeries, those managing chronic conditions, and patients in need of rehabilitation after orthopedic events. Your clinical input will directly influence their recovery and quality of life, providing an opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact on their healing journey.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, with a focus on physical therapy assisting standards.
- Completion of an accredited physical therapy assistant program, specifically one recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association, is essential.
- Current licensure or certification as mandated by state law, accompanied by a valid CPR certification.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and access to a functioning, insured vehicle as travel to multiple patient locations may be necessary for in-home services.
Preferred Experience
- At least 2 years of clinical experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant is preferred.
- Familiarity with clinic-based or hospital-based patient care settings enhances candidacy.
- Experience working with a diverse population of patients in rehabilitation is a strong asset.
Compensation and Benefits
