Job Summary

The Patient Dining Associate plays a vital role in providing exceptional meal service and customer support to patients. This position ensures patients receive the correct meals according to prescribed diets, assists with menu selections, maintains nourishment supplies, and communicates important nutrition-related information to the healthcare team. The role requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver patient meal trays in accordance with prescribed diet orders.
  • Serve coffee, tea, ice cream, yogurt, and other approved food items.
  • Garnish trays, remove packaging as needed, and assist patients with opening beverages and condiments.
  • Collect and return soiled meal trays after service.
  • Distribute menu selection forms and explain meal ordering procedures to patients.
  • Assist patients who are unable to complete menus independently.
  • Communicate diet orders and meal changes to the department data center or appropriate staff.
  • Verify that all patients receive the correct meal tray based on current diet orders.
  • Obtain trays for new admissions and patients with diet changes.
  • Utilize Excellent Encounter and customer service standards to promote a positive patient experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the galley area after each meal service and complete scheduled deep-cleaning assignments.
  • Inventory, order, stock, and rotate nourishments, supplements, and patient service supplies.
  • Discard expired nourishment items and maintain proper food safety standards.
  • Support nursing nourishment areas by supplying and organizing inventory as needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with patients, nursing staff, dietitians, and coworkers.
  • Communicate patient nutrition concerns, food preferences, and intake issues to the Clinical Dietitian.
  • May assist with training and orienting new employees.
  • Adhere to all department, hospital, safety, and infection prevention policies.
  • Provide age-appropriate service and demonstrate knowledge of growth and developmental needs across the lifespan.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous food service, patient service, hospitality, or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Basic food safety and sanitation knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to follow diet orders and maintain accuracy when delivering meals.
  • Ability to lift, transport, and stock food and supply items as required.
